Student Profile
Kevin Whelan, MBA Facilties Management, Nestle (former Facilities Manager Rosyth Naval Base)
'Having spent the last five years of my service life managing facilities at Rosyth Naval Base, I completed a “Forces Special” BIFM Part One course at Aldershot before being released on the unsuspecting world.
As a junior naval engineer officer I was advised that I lacked the commercial, budgeting, and the strategic experience many potential employers claimed they sought.
There are many expensive short courses around that provide a particular niche, but the MBA Facilities Management offered by Sheffield Hallam provides a world recognised tick in the box to say “This manager knows how to run all the aspects of an FM operation”.
It is not an easy option. Attending part time will take three years of hard work to get there. However the course support team, tutors and the learning environment is first class. The social atmosphere is great. Sheffield is a lively city – just need time to enjoy it!'
