Welcome

17-06-10, 17:00

Hello everyone and welcome to my very first blog as BIFM chair. It would be remiss of me not to thank Iain for his hard work over the last two years as Chairman of BIFM, you don't need me to tell you how tough the trading environment has been and Iain?s leadership has been important for the Institute.

My objectives for writing the blog are slightly different to Iain's but in essence, like Iain, I am simply making another connection with the most important aspect of BIFM, you the members. In my blog that I hope to post weekly, I will keep you up to date with the things I am doing on behalf of BIFM looking at the week just gone and the week to come. Given this is a voluntary role it will be hard not to mention my day job and the many other things I?m involved in and hopefully that too will give you an insight in to being a senior volunteer for BIFM and how a life work balance can be achieved.

My first official engagement started with the Members Day and AGM on June 17 and I have to confess to being a little nervous beforehand but the day went off really well. It is also amazing to see how popular this single event is with around 250 people attending. Over the next few days, I will be making contact with the various groups and regions to see how I can support them over the coming two years, looking to next week I have a very important induction session with the new board on Thursday at head office then will be travelling in to London for a world FM event.

World FM day is another day that is starting to grow, why not make the time to take part, even if its just a matter of raising the profile of FM in your own organisation, whilst the world inspires thoughts of far away places don't forget our world is all the things and people around us too.

I welcome feedback on my blog and indeed my chairmanship; I will try to answer all emails but don't forget that most general enquiries can be answered on the BIFM website or via the head office team.

Best wishes and thank you for reading.
