Part II
The Examinations syllabus is underpinned by the twenty BIFM competences. The syllabus balances a range of specialist and general management areas which, in total, cover the professional content of facilities management.
The BIFM Part I examinations:
- reflect the ability of a junior facilities manager with some supervisory and wider facilities management responsibilities
- are approximately of HND standard
- comprise three modules
The BIFM Part II examinations:
- reflect the ability of a senior facilities manager with overall facilities and general management responsibilities
- are approximately of first degree standard
- comprise four modules

Candidates may sit papers in any order within Part I or Part II. All modules in Part I must be successfully passed before beginning Part II.

The examination structure has been replaced from 2010 onwards by a completely new structure – please see further details below.
Note: New Qualifications for 2010
BIFM Parts I and II will be replaced by a new suite of qualifications in 2010 offering a choice of qualifications at levels 4, 5 and 6. The new qualifications, which have been submitted to the Qualifications and Credit Framework for accreditation, will be available in 2010. Any candidate who is part way through their studies and who did not have the opportunity to complete Part II before December 2009 will be able to transfer to the new qualifications by the granting of credits to reflect their previous achievements.
