Higher Education Route
A number of universities and colleges offer undergraduate or post-graduate qualifications in facilities management. Some of these institutions carry BIFM-accredited status. Accreditation is a rigorous and comprehensive process involving scrutiny of the course content and a visit to the university by the BIFM accreditation panel, including interviews with staff and students.
A list of accredited and non-accredited courses can be found under HE Providers. New applications for accreditation are welcome from courses which have at least one cohort of graduates. To view our policy and procedures please see the Accreditation Policy page.
An academic qualification in facilities management from one of the BIFM-accredited universities is regarded as satisfying the knowledge component of the BIFM Qualification. Applicants on this route apply to the BIFM having completed their studies and gained a minimum of two years’ practical FM experience. They will be invited to go straight to the preparation of a portfolio of evidence.
If you are a graduate from a BIFM-accredited course and would like further information on how to move to the portfolio stage of the BIFM Qualification, please contact the Professional Standards & Education Co-ordinator, on 0845 058 1355 or pseco-ordinator@bifm.org.uk.
