What are apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are an excellent way for new or existing employees to master practical skills in the workplace and gain a formal qualification whilst working and earning money.
BIFM is part of the project led by Asset Skills (the sector skills council for facilities management) which has developed degree‑level apprenticeships in facilities management. Funded through the government’s Higher Apprenticeship Fund. Apprenticeships in facilities management at levels 4 and 5 are now available for employers and candidates to access.
The level 6 apprenticeship in FM is still in development, we will keep you updated on its progress.
About the apprenticeships

Apprenticeships typically take between one and four years to complete, depending on the type of apprenticeship. Apprenticeships aim to produce well-rounded, effective employees with up-to-date knowledge as well as technical competence.
In order to do this, these apprenticeships include:
> A qualification that assesses competence in work situations
> A knowledge qualification that demonstrates an appropriate level of understanding about the area of work
> In some cases a combined qualification, which tests both competence and knowledge
> Functional Skills – which ensure that appropriate standards in English and maths are met
> Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) – awareness of the rights and responsibilities that are essential in the workplace
> Development of Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) – which are essential in all workplaces, including for effective participators, self-managers, independent enquirers, creative thinkers, reflective learners and team workers.
> A knowledge qualification that demonstrates an appropriate level of understanding about the area of work
> In some cases a combined qualification, which tests both competence and knowledge
> Functional Skills – which ensure that appropriate standards in English and maths are met
