Amanda Cherry

UK Property & Facilities Manager, Oxford University Press

Studied: BIFM Level 5 Diploma in Facilities Management

BIFM recognised centre: Blue-Eye Training

I applied to undertake a BIFM Level 5 diploma in Facilities Management after my colleague completed Level 4 with success. My goal was to achieve a formal qualification within FM to help with my newly appointed role of UK Property & Facilities Manager.

The attraction for me was the coursework and assignments instead of sitting exams which didn't appeal to me. I admit that at the beginning of the course I was daunted by the amount of work and time required to complete, but had really good support from the centre. I dedicated my time to completing the homework every time on all subjects, thus making the final assignments easier to complete.

Some of the subjects I found straight forward to complete and others were more demanding, but I had extremely good support from my employer which helped.

After achieving the qualification, I had great satisfaction knowing that I had worked really hard to achieve it and it gave me additional skills and knowledge within my role.  My confidence grew as time went on and my employer trusts me to make decisions and seeks my advice about FM.
