MKC Training Services, Royal School of Military Engineering

Studied: BIFM Level 5 Diploma in Facilities Management

BIFM recognised centre: Xenon Group

"I undertook the BIFM Level 5 Diploma by distance learning. That particular route gave me the flexibility to increase and decrease my pace to fit around the requirements of work; it wasn't feasible for me to plan a set day away from my desk each week.

The recognised centre's material and mentoring, coupled to the support from BIFM's Knowledge Section made the experience interesting and credible, and information was always readily available to help with learning and assessments. The magazines and emails add value to the course, and I have continued to use their contents in my work.

The diploma has already added significant value to my output. At a simple, fundamental level it helps my communication with other FM stakeholders by using familiar terminology, and it helps me to understand what makes them culturally 'tick'. But it also helps me to integrate FM into the wider context with pan-organisation tasks such as stakeholder analysis, risk management and project management.

The structure of the training allowed me to incrementally use these skills as the course progressed, so it was of immediate value. I'm now in a position to know that my work is aligned to the best practice from the FM profession, and I have on-going access to support via BIFM's member services. My remaining task, now I've finished, is to progress my membership.  In summary, I'd fully recommend it."
