The BIFM CPD Process

BIFM’s CPD process and cycle is a useful tool to help you think about the next steps that you want to take. Why not follow this step by step guide and build up your professional development plan for 2012 and beyond.

1. Identify my goals
Understand what is expected of you in your role, and future goals. ‘I would like to complete a formal qualification in FM’ and ‘I am keen to read a Good Practice Guide on Sustainability’.

2. Gap analysis
Complete our CPD questionnaire and identify your strengths and understand where your development needs lie.

3. Plan development
Write it down! Plan your development around activities relevant to your role. Why not record ‘competence action notes’ about what activities you plan to do.

There are numerous opportunities that can count towards your CPD:
> Attending events
> Reading newsletters
> Reading FM World
> Participating in group forum discussions
> Attending training
> Qualifications in FM
> Online learning
> Reading GPGs

4. Complete CPD Activity
Do it! Undertake what you have planned to do.

5. Reflect
Ask yourself ‘What will I do differently? What did I learn? How will I move forward and apply what I’ve learnt?’

6. Record
Use the BIFM online record to keep a record of your CPD activity.

7. Evaluate
Time to evaluate your development against your goals ‘Am I on target for achieving my goals?’ Think about what you still want to achieve and how you will achieve it in the CPD process.
