Sustainability and Environmental Impact Award
AWARD WINNER - Centre MK

The judges are looking for practical implementation of socially, environmentally and economically sustainable practices in FM operations. There are a wide range of definitions for sustainability and the judges will be looking for the entrant to identify what sustainability means to the organisation as a whole and to the FM team in particular. In addition, the entrant will need to explain the nature of the sustainability initiative, how it was applied to a specific project and the rationale behind its conception. For example entries on just energy management without reference to the wider sustainability agenda will not be pursued.
Sustainability in FM is about the ongoing ability to deliver the initiative, therefore schemes are expected to be already implemented and in operation. The judges will want to understand how best practice is used in the parent/host business
The means of measuring performance and value is down to the entrant, but they must demonstrate them via methodology based upon environmental, economic and social principals.
Judging Criteria:
The entrant will need to ensure the following is provided:
1. What sustainability means to the parent/host organisation
2. How sustainability has been defined for the FM team and the programme developed to implement change
3. Baseline information capturing the environmental, social and economic aspects of the initiative
4. Operational performance set against the baseline
5. What benefits have been achieved for both the FM team, and the wider business and community
6. How they have/intend to promote the learning and experience achieved
7. Examples of where sustainability has been successfully integrated into the routine business practices.
