Two major case studies sited and very good written and presentation material provided. Case Study 1 was Marks & Spencer’s Plan A - supporting their intention to embed sustainable property development into their core business. DL commenced with a full understanding of the client, their requirements and condition surveys to create a platform for concise, measurable objectives. The solutions developed were strongly aligned to business strategy and provided an integrated approach to a whole life costing model across all service lines. The key benefits realised included; a step change in store and specification drivers; embedding Whole Life Value into the core business; empowering operational teams to contribute their expertise at development stage; supporting the retrofit of sustainable solutions driving down energy consumption. There was good clarity demonstrated at project commencement – with strong base lining of data and processes, providing value propositions with commercial viability and significant returns. Good development of both Macro and Micro models to drive solutions and demonstrate business cases to support M&S Plan A objectives. Whole life costing conferences held by DL with M&S staff at all levels to ensure buy in to the whole costing model. Client from M&S was at the presentation - a knowledgeable, effective client, who trusts the advice and guidance provided by DL - they work together, understanding all the options and evolution of the business needs and demands. Multiple stake holder engagement was critical to the success of the projects. Davis Langdon now regarded as "trusted advisor" - developing appropriate solutions in tandem with the business. DL met M&S requirements for energy, waste, bio-diversity and whole life costings, matching environmental, financial and sustainable goals. This was demonstrated to be a strongly replicable solution as DL is applying similar solutions with other clients. Clear models allow the client to make the best informed decisions – and demonstrate excellent sharing of information with supply chains. This is a great model which could be used across all FM contracts and would provide excellent management information. This is now a significant corporate agenda item and has been a significant element of the DL consultancy process for many of their clients.
