Winner: MTS with Freeway Medical and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Trust - Paediatric Mobile Chart Workstation
Developing a cost effective, mobile workstation for use in High Dependency Units in Hospital Paediatric Departments incorporates a multitude of design issues; the needs of departmental managers and nurses, the environment for the patients and visitors, the cost of the product, appearance and associated cleaning regime. It is through review of the complexity of developing such a relatively simple finished product that the success and value of the end result comes to the fore. The foundation of the success was a highly collaborative approach between the NHS Trust, the designer and the manufacturer. They took a positive and innovative approach to some fundamental challenges; a non-clinical appearance, the introduction of colour and chlorine compatible finishes suitable for high intensity cleaning regimes. They did not take the simple approach of using what was currently available as best fit, they took the innovative approach and looked at how to adapt the design and the manufacturing processes to meet end user requirements. This they have achieved, working as a team, with the product fitting in perfectly to the overall objectives of the Unit and the challenging working environment in which they work.
Highly commened: Leesman Ltd – The Leesman Index
The Leesman Index is the fastest growing collection of workplace effectiveness data in Europe, but what does that mean ? It means that this product has the potential to be one of the major tools used across many professions, property management, building design and facilities management, in designing effective workplace strategy. In effect, it extends beyond the immediate boundaries of buildings as it focusses on workplace productivity; it looks deep into the core of the business. In simple terms, it merely collates and present workplace data through employee surveys. However, the key to it’s success is that is designed with a range of end users in mind. The data is presented in striking visual format that can be used to support business case. The information can be pivoted to answer a multitude of questions. Also core to the product is the integral benchmarking capability evaluating data across not only specific buildings and diverse estates, but across industry as a whole. I am sure that the Leesman Index will become a recognised industry standard way of working in a very short term…. and whatever competition is out there will have to get their skates on as Leesman are setting the standard!
