Impact on Organisation and Workplace Award

This entry looked to bring together three sites into one and create a new campus site that was to reflect the openness of the business, support business communications, create flexible space as well as space that staff and customers alike would enjoy.

The project was known as “Project Our Space” and received full support throughout the business from all levels; with extensive and successful communications throughout, involving the business in a number of key decisions and with the whole process led by the Estates and FM team. The project team created “huggers” and “hoppers” to determine numbers of desks, the variety of break-out areas to conduct business and supported all of these areas with technology to facilitate a range of work settings to support collaboration amongst its teams. With a very good provision of shared spaces, generous space allocations, good use of light and colour, the project has delivered on its brief and made a significant impact to the Telefonica business, its employees and customers.

In summary, one of the Judges said “A great FM team, a great space and an extremely well conceived and executed project – truly a space I would like to work in, and a team I would be proud of. A credit to the industry.”

Project organisation and brief, including assessment of needs, location strategy, project team organisation, and communication strategy
Quality, flexibility and cost, including the assessment of options, in-built flexibility, cost-effectiveness, quality of end result, and maintenance considerations
Space planning, including group layouts, interaction between groups, meetings at the workplace, configuration of work positions, and the use of space standards
Safety and comfort, including conformity with health and safety regulations, control at the workplace, quality of working environment, staff’s sense of well-being and recognition of their ergonomic needs
Design, including overall ambience as well as success in creating conditions for achievement and individual expression
Shared facilities, including on-floor service areas, personal storage, formal and informal meetings, central/localised catering and after hours provisions
Project success, including contribution to people’s self-esteem and creativity, support for the application of skill and responsibility, contribution to job satisfaction and increased productivity
