Details Please join us on the evening of the 18th September at the Royal College of Nursing to hear Richard Davies, Accounts Director, Acuity Management Solutions Ltd., give his presentation on ‘An integrated approach to measure and improve facilities performance’, a précis of which follows:

Whilst the Facilities Management industry is reported to be worth over £100 billion, its perception as an efficient and successful support service does not measure up to its size. Within a service industry that accounts for as much as +25% of an organisation’s total expenditure it is essential that these services offer optimum value in supporting core organisational performance and economic growth.

To meet the challenges of BIFM’s new mission statement, ‘To advance the facilities management profession’, this presentation builds on ‘Re-thinking FM’ and will focus on the key issues that lead to strong FM performance and ultimately, an ethos of continuous improvement.

In the absence of an industry standard measurement protocol for the facilities profession, the author applies 20 years of industry expertise and the findings of his own PhD research project to develop a universal measurement model which identifies a fully integrated and referenced FM performance model.

The fmi auditing & benchmarking protocol is a well-defined and robust process which may deliver significant cost savings and efficiencies in an effective manner whilst simultaneously guiding organisations towards best practice Facilities Management services.

The presentation will assist FM’s to consider the benefits of adopting such an integrated process and will cover the key perspectives of successful, high-performing facilities services, including; the Balanced Score card, Lean Six Sigma, FM business architecture (corporate, strategic, tactical and operational) and Key Terms of Reference (quality, sustainability & environment, health & safety, compliance, corporate social responsibility, demonstrable support to the core business, etc.) in a truly holistic approach to FM.

Venue: Royal College of Nursing, 20 Cavendish Square, London W1G ORN

An optional building tour, courtesy of Eddy Arram, Estates and Facilities Support Manager, will follow the presentation and here is a brief description of what will be on offer to you:

20 Cavendish square was built in 1729 by Edward Shepherd. It was one of the earliest town houses in the square. In 1730 the great staircase was decorated by Sir James Thornhill but some think it was actually by his pupil John Devoto. The building is a Grade II listed.

The RCN was founded in 1916. Currently it is the largest representative organization of the nursing profession with over 30,000 members. By 1921 the college had grown and needed bigger and better accommodation. A major supporter of nursing Lady Cowdray had in the previous year purchased 20 Cavendish Square and converted it into a professional women's club. This was known as the Cowdray Club. She allowed the RCN to build in the gardens/garages/stables of the site behind 20 Cavendish Square. In 1930 No. 1a Henrietta Place was purchased by Lady Cowdray. 20 Cavendish Square and 1a Henrietta Place were incorporated together to form a single unit. The entrance hall to 1a Henrietta Place is overlooked by a carved balcony around an oval opening. The floor of the hall is variegated marble and came from quarries near Rome.

A major refurbishment of the building was undertaken in 1999 and it was reopened in 2001. The listed facade and front rooms of the building have been maintained but to increase the space layout of the building an innovative use of the exterior was used by building a covered glass exterior circulation walk way.

We will commence with registration and tea and coffee at 17.00, followed by introductions to the speaker and the venue host and will commence the tour from 18.45 onward. Refreshments and networking opportunities will then be available to you until the building closes at 20.00.

This promises to be interesting evening in two parts so please do book early by contacting me at Lynda.tilbury@btinternet.com. Please state your name, title and company name, which is then incorporated into our attendee list and is complimentary to your networking. May we also request that you provide a contact number and advise us of any access requirements?

IMPORTANT NOTE: I will be on holiday from 18th August to 4th September and will not be accessing my e-mail during this time. Therefore please be assured that any requests received on or after the 18th will be responded to immediately upon my return. Thank you.
