Details Introduction to Energy Performance Certification

From 2008, UK regulations require that many non domestic buildings will need an energy certificate showing building energy performance. These energy performance certificates are similar to the labels we see when buying fridges and freezers and will encourage improvements in the way we design, operate and maintain buildings. They are required in all new buildings, at sale or rent of existing buildings and annually in large public existing buildings.

Who wants to manage an ‘F’ rated building? Who wants to sell or rent an ‘F’ rated building? Where do FM’s go to get a certificate produced? What do you do if your building has been rated ‘F’.

FM’s need to know what the requirements for energy certification are and what actions they need to take to meet the regulations. Course content includes:

Why do we need energy certificates for buildings?
How to measure building energy performance
The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)
The UK regulations for Energy certification
Energy Performance Certificates for new buildings
Energy Performance Certificates for existing buildings at sale or rent
Display Energy Certificates for large public buildings
Who can provide the certificates for FM’s
What software tools will they use to produce certificates
What influences the energy rating?
Managing the certification process
What to do if your building has a poor rating
