Members Survey 2002
This is the third edition of the British Institute of Facilities Management biennial Survey of Members and now represents a substantial body of information which is intended to be of value and relevance to all who have a professional interest in the discipline whether as a practising facilities manager, an employer, a customer, a supplier, or a consultant.
The content of the Survey has been modified, expanded, and developed on each occasion and has proved itself to be one of the most widely referenced research outputs available for the facilities profession. It will continue to evolve in the future as it seeks to remain an authoritative body of information in a meaningful form.
For this edition the survey was conducted for the first time by members accessing the survey form by means of the Institute website. Whilst the level of response, over 250 members, was less than by the previously employed hard copy version it is a fully representative cross section of the membership and is a cost effective and efficient means of conducting a survey of this scale. A further innovation is the distribution of the survey report to the membership again by the employment of the website.
For this to have been achieved we are indebted to the The Knowledge Committee of the Institute for its ongoing support and interest in this activity, to the researchers of the Facilities Management Graduate Centre of Sheffield Hallam University, notably Elizabeth Clark, for their expert administration and interpretation of the survey and its results, and to those members of the Institute who invested their valuable time in completing the questionnaire and whose information and views we have endeavoured to accurately represent in this report.
The Knowledge Committee of the Institute seeks to promote and encourage research in facilities management to all who are engaged in the profession and to the benefit of the public interest and this report represents one significant output.
