Sales and Marketing Consultant
Brief description of the job and key responsibilities:
To help small and medium companies to win business.
What attracted you to the job?
Freedom, self determination, variety, sense of achievement.
A brief run-down of your previous roles:
Furniture salesman and director of a few interiors businesses.
How did you get into FM and what attracted you to the industry?
I have been selling to facilities managers for over 30 years.
If you could change one thing about the industry, what would it be?
I would like to change the emphasis of the facilities management industry from maintenance of the status quo to a proactive process of improvement. I would like the BIFM to be the ‘institute of workplace productivity’ and then all sorts of movers and shakers might be encouraged to join.
Are you involved in any BIFM central or local events?
I am a member of the Home Counties Region committee from its foundation in 1992 and I have been chairman of the region for the past six years. I have been chairman of the Membership Committee and served on the BIFM Executive Committee.
What’s been your career high point to date?
Being diagnosed with prostate cancer would not seem likely to feature as a highlight in anybody’s life but since I have been identified with having a non-aggressive form some five years ago I have been on the BBC’s Breakfast twice (once on the couch with Natasha), Sky News, BBC News 24, Radio 4 and Five Live among others.
Any interesting tales to tell?
Lots, and other people probably have some less flattering ones to tell about me too.
