Guidelines to PLR
PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP REVIEW
In support of application for Fellowship of BIFM
Instructions for completion
FBIFM is the most prestigious grade of BIFM member – a true mark of distinction and an aspiration for all, and the designation of fellowship is now more than ever a badge of achievement. The attainment of fellowship should be the goal for all, and is the level at which other professions will measure you and BIFM.
This guide is for Certified Members (CBIFM) as Fellowship is only available as an upgrade from CBIFM as one of the key criteria for Fellowship is a commitment or contribution to the Institute.
The Professional Leadership Review (PLR) has been designed for you to demonstrate that you have achieved a proven level of attainment in the Institute's requirements for Fellowship and a commitment to the facilities management profession. This has been designed for you to demonstrate your experience by giving examples of projects and/or tasks undertaken against 2 key BIFM competences, which are deliberately chosen to allow you to give your views as a senior professional, and to demonstrate your personal effectiveness as a leader, as well as demonstrate your commitment and future contribution to BIFM and the profession.
You are required to demonstrate your own experience, involvement and responsibility by giving examples of projects, tasks and activities undertaken matched against the BIFM Competences detailed below.
You must complete all of the narrative boxes. It is suggested that you write around 5000 words in total against these competences. The narratives may be in report or essay format.
Successful applicants will be able to fully demonstrate to an independent assessor their use of a combination of general and specialist facilities management knowledge and understanding, and discuss their views as a senior professional.
The narrative boxes should describe in detail examples of projects, tasks and activities which have contributed to professional development and knowledge gained including where applicable:
· Nature of the activity,
· Personal involvement and level of responsibility
You can download the template the PLR and work on it on your own computer until you are completely satisfied with it. You then return your completed PLR in 2 ways:
· Print the document as a .pdf file, save it and upload it to the application area of the website
· Print the document as a .pdf file, save it and email it to the membership team via membership@bifm.org.uk
Experience
Use the Experience section in each competence you are completing to clearly demonstrate, with examples of specific projects and areas of responsibility, your managerial experience, skills and professional judgment involving the application of knowledge in a broad range of complex technical or professional work activities performed in a wide range of contexts relating to the elements of this competence listed below.
Reflection
Then in The Reflection and Evaluation section critically reflect on the success and learning points of the projects and tasks described, analysing, reconsidering and questioning experiences within a broad context of issues within facilities management. In this section you can explore the interaction between ideas received from books, lectures, training courses, experiences, etc. and your own internal understanding and interpretation of those ideas in the working environment.
