Grades
It is possible to apply for three main grades of membership dependent on your skills and level of experience. These are:
Associate
Member
Certified
If you would like to join BIFM at an assessed level of membership (Member and Certified Grade) or if you would like to upgrade your membership then you may like to find out about our Step Up Your Membership programme.

Do you know which route you need to apply for?
Associate
Associate grade is suitable for people who are new to the FM industry, or working within junior FM positions.
Apply for Associate Now
Member
Member grade members are entitled to use the post nominal letters MBIFM. You can apply to be Member grade via one of the following routes:
a) Three years’ management, two years’ FM experience and passed the BIFM Level 4 Diploma OR at least one years’ managerial and FM experience and have passed the BIFM Level 5 Diploma
b) Three years’ management, two years’ FM experience and passed the BIFM Part I examinations
c) Three years’ management, two years’ FM experience and have other relevant qualifications. The qualification must be FM related and be at Level 4 or 5. For more information on this route, please click here
d) Five years’ FM and three years’ Management experience
As Member Grade is an assessed level of membership you will be required to supply a full CV, current job description and reflective CPD record alongside you application form.
You may be required to supply further supporting materials dependent on your entry route.

Certified
Certified grade members are entitled to use the post nominal letters CBIFM. You can apply to be Certified grade via one of the following routes:
a) Three years or more management and FM experience and passed BIFM Level 6 Diploma
b) Three years or more management and FM experience and completed BIFM Part II

Student Members and other concessions
Students
If you are studying for a degree in Facilities Management or you are studying for one of the BIFM Qualifications you will be eligible for a student concession which will reduce your subscription to £70.00 per year, regardless of your membership grade. In order to claim this rate of membership you will be asked for proof of your student status.
Unemployed Members
If you are unemployed you are eligible to claim a reduced subscription for one year. Please contact the membership department on 0845 058 1358 or at membership@bifm.org.uk for more information.
Retired Members
If you are over 60 and not in full time employment, you are eligible to apply for a retired concessionary rate of membership. Again, please contact the membership department for further information.
