CBIFM Route d) Exempting Qualifying Criteria
This route is open to those who have achieved an individual chartered membership or exempting qualification from a relevant listed body or institution. Lists of charterships and exempting qualifications have been approved by the BIFM. The basis for inclusion on these lists is relevance and affinity to the practice and profession of the body of knowledge for facilities management, as defined within the BIFM competences. The lists also recognise the typical progression pathways into facilities management that will be experienced by many CBIFM applicants.
Assessment of an individual’s specific FM knowledge, together with level and length of experience also needs to be evidenced and met as part of an application for CBIFM – this is achieved through assessment of the In Depth Personal Professional Review.
a) Relevant Chartered Status
Award of CBIFM can be considered for applicants who are already Chartered (individual) members of professional institutes that have been awarded the Royal Charter , as the criteria for the award of Chartered Membership of these bodies is aligned to the level of CBIFM, and applicants will have been assessed by those bodies holding the Royal Charter.
The Charted Bodies page forms the list of currently agreed “relevant” bodies. This list is for guidance only and should form part of information, advice and guidance. However, if a potential CBIFM approaches BIFM with proof of membership of a chartered body which is not on this list, he/she will be considered and the relevance judged on an individual basis, with the potential for that body to be added to the list, via approval from the Governance Committee.
b) Other Exempting Qualifications
Award of CBIFM can also be considered for applicants who have successfully achieved other qualifications that are not accredited by BIFM. The rationale for this is that achievement of a relevant qualification at Level 6 (Degree) or above and accredited by Ofqual through the National Database of Accredited Qualifications/Qualifications Credit Framework shows a process of rigorous assessment at the level required for CBIFM.
The Exempting Qualifications page forms the list of currently agreed “other exempting qualifications”. This list is for guidance only and should form part of information, advice and guidance. However, if a potential CBIFM approaches BIFM with proof of successful achievement of an accredited qualification at Level 6 (Degree) or above which is not on this list, he/she will be considered and the relevance judged on an individual basis, with the potential for that qualification to be added to the list, via approval from the Governance Committee.
Applicants via this route must meet all other entry requirements, in particular that of adherence to the BIFM code of conduct, and for current CPD activity evidenced through a reflective CPD record. In addition we must receive your original qualification certificate.
