The BIFM sustainability project
18-05-06 0:0 BIFM
There is an increasing desire from the Government that facilities are provided and managed in a more sustainable manner to support communities, employees and shareholders. Facilities managers have a major role in influencing the environmental, social and economic development of their organisations.
Over a two-year period the BIFM Sustainability Project will develop tools and information on sustainable facilities management for existing building stock. The project will also show how sustainable development can be applied to every day decision-making. The following key areas will be developed:
• a web-based knowledge portal for the FM community highlighting existing tools and awareness in a way that is understandable and accessible
• a series of workshops and training sessions to engage the FM industry
• publication of a best practice guide to support implementation of sustainable development
• development and integration of sustainability concepts and principles into professional competencies and skills for members
The project requires input from various different sources and the BIFM needs organisations and FM companies to become project partners. Our partners will benefit from best practice knowledge and understanding of sustainability; access to Government policy and decision-making; collaboration with industry and best practice bodies; and the chance to promote their involvement in this key project.
