Have you reviewed your CPD in 2007?

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) remains the cornerstone of a professional Institute and the development of the BIFM’s CPD framework during 2007 supports both individual and organisational objectives.
BIFM members’ commitment to CPD is enshrined in the Institute’s Code of Professional Conduct. Institute members may use post-nominals in accordance with Article 3 on the condition that they demonstrate commitment to the Continuous Professional Development programme provided by the BIFM.
CPD is about making progress in your career by increasing your skills, knowledge and understanding and thereby enhancing your effectiveness. The Institute promotes many opportunities to take part in CPD activities. The regions organise a variety of CPD events, the majority of which are free. The annual and regional conferences are key events with a CPD focus which generate debate, discussion and networking. As well as attending events, members can volunteer at regional and main committee level and develop personal strengths and qualities.
BIFM Training offers a comprehensive programme of courses mapped against the BIFM competences. For full details please visit the BIFM Training website. FM World is available free to members and carries industry news, features, interviews, case studies and comment. The BIFM website also offers a plethora of learning and development opportunities, which support CPD.
The BIFM’s online CPD framework has been enhanced, in addition to recording employment history and learning experiences, members can now populate their record automatically following attendance at Institute events and create certificates. Members can also rate themselves on the 20 BIFM competences generating a plan showing possible areas for improvement.
“When opening my CPD account I realised that I was already doing a significant amount of CPD but had not been recording it.” said Simon Aspinall, director of Catch 22 and chair of BIFM north east branch; “As a professional recruiter, I am aware of how important CPD is to one’s career development, job satisfaction and lifelong learning.”
