New CRC user guide now available

20-04-09 15:55 BIFM

A new guide has been published for the thousands of organisations involved in the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC).

The CRC is a new mandatory emissions trading scheme that aims to improve energy efficiency and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted in the UK.  The guide will explain what the scheme is, who it applies to and how it will work.

CRC will affect large organisations in both the public and private sector.  Organisations that meet the qualification criteria, which are based on how much electricity they consumed in 2008, will be obliged to participate.

The participating organisations will have to monitor their emissions and purchase ‘allowances’ sold by the Government, for each tonne of carbon dioxide they emit.  The Government will publish an annual performance league table showing the comparative performance of all participants, so the better a company performs, the higher it will appear in the table.

The document is written as a practical tool, and provides an overview of CRC and its principles.  Please click on the link below to read the full document.
