BIFM Award Winners applauded

A packed Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Monday night recognised the achievements of the BIFM Awards 2009 winners.

Over 1,200 people from across the FM industry and profession applauded the winners as they took to the stage.

The evening was compered by Claudia Winkelman (hot foot from filming Strictly Come Dancing – It Takes Two) with Jon Culshaw from Dead Ringers providing great entertainment.

The coveted FM of the Year Award was won by Andy Ratcliffe from Amey. The judges said: "Andy is a very worthy winner. Although well qualified and experienced in both property and facilities management, Andy clearly believes that there is still room and time for learning; he constantly challenges himself and his team to stretch the boundaries of his knowledge and experience to create innovative solutions to business problems and communications.

“Whilst Andy has remained a strong customer focused & results driven senior facilities manager, he has clearly not lost sight of the importance of his team and he devotes a significant amount of his time to managing, leading and inspiring them."

The award for Overall FM Industry Impact was presented for the first time this year and it went to Stan Mitchell. The citation reads: “"Stan is well known as an influential figure in the development of the facilities management profession. As BIFM Chairman from 2002 to 2004, he played a key role in the restructuring of the Institute during a period of rapid growth and change.

Stan was also a prime mover in the creation of the ’international association of FM associations’ - Global FM and became its first chairman.

Whether chairing Scotland region, working on European FM standards, promoting FM in the Middle East and Asia or simply networking, Stan has always been, and continues to be, a great ambassador for facilities management."
