Eco social networking group, Footprint Friends, has announced the ten finalists for the Wipe Out Waste (WOW) Awards, taking place on Tuesday 3rd November

BIFM CEO Ian Fielder has been chosen as one of the ‘Dragons’, and will join five others to judge the sustainable competition, in a Dragons Den style format – it’s even being televised online!

Schools around the country were asked to submit ideas on how they could become greener in different approaches.  50 great WOW ideas were submitted, with Footprint Friends narrowing it down to ten ideas they felt would have both maximum impact and the most chance of being implemented in schools nationwide.

The ten biggest WOW ideas are:

Local Milk for all  -  Park School, Blackpool

The Big Switch off  -  Fazarkerley High School, Liverpool

Project Gold  -  St. Luke’s Science & Sports College, Exeter

Nearly New Uniform  -  Chatham South School, Kent

What a Load of Rubbish  -  Smithycroft Secondary School, Glasgow

Meat Free Mondays  -  Bydales, Cleveland

Green Crusaders  -  King Edward VI School, Northumberland

Stop throwing away perfectly good pencils  -  Canon Burrows CE Primary School, Tameside

Re-use Rain to Flush our Drains  -  Marlborough School, Oxfordshire

The Great Water Idea  -  Nottingham Academy, Nottingham

The winning idea will be scoped for national implementation in all UK schools, with the winning team and their teachers being asked to be a part of taking their WOW idea into production nationwide.

The teams of students, aged 10-17, have been invited down to London to pitch their ideas before the ‘Green Dragons’ on 3rd November at the Frontline Club in Paddington.

The other Dragons, join Ian Fielder are:

Dr Liz Goodwin, CEO of Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP)

Professor Bill McGuire, Footprint Friends Science Advisor
