BIFM Training in Dubai

BIFM Training has made a successful debut venture in Dubai.  Delegates from as far afield as India, Malaysia, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Oman joined colleagues from the UAE for the first public sessions of BIFM Training's flagship course, Understanding FM, which took place in Dubai on 7 and 8 October.

Organised alongside IIR's major Cityscape Exhibition and Conference, a specially adapted version of the Foundation Course was very well received by delegates - to the extent that an additional parallel session had to be arranged to accommodate demand.

FM is developing strongly in the region, tracking the completion of major new developments in a range of sectors - from commercial offices to retail, healthcare, education and infrastructure.  This is fuelling a demand for skills and expertise in all aspects of FM operations.  Despite a marked slow-down in development activity in Dubai over the last year as a result of the economic crisis, the scale of construction remains massive by European standards – with a range of highly ambitious schemes under consideration for the future.

Effective FM clearly has a vital role to play in helping to maintain the quality of facilities, as well as the longer term value of expensive assets - as many landlords and developers are now realising.  The complexity of building design and local climatic conditions are two particularly challenging factors for FM's both in Dubai and other rapidly developing cities in the Middle East.  The emerging regulatory framework in the UAE will also help to shape professional practice.

Commenting on the success of the programme, BIFM Training's director of learning and development services, Jane Bell said: "We are absolutely delighted by the take-up on the courses and also the very positive way in which the delegates contributed throughout the programmes.

"This was a really invaluable chance to share ideas and experience across international boundaries, and the links with the Cityscape event were a powerful reminder of the important strategic relationship between development/construction and FM.  We will look forward to running further courses in Dubai and other Middle East centres in 2010."

Understanding FM Foundation is available as a public session or can be delivered in-house as a more flexible and cost-effective solution to your organisation's needs.
