BIFM appoints new Chair and Deputies

16-03-10 10:6 BIFM

The BIFM held a Members’ Council meeting on Thursday 11th March, where the new chairman and deputy chairs were elected.

The BIFM is pleased to announce that the new chairman for the next two years will be Ian Broadbent.  Ian (pictured) has been chair of the North region since 2007 and has played an increasingly active part within the BIFM.  He is a firm believer in learning opportunities and career development, and has himself obtained the BIFM Qual.

Talking about his appointment, he said:  “I am delighted to have recently been elected at Members’ Council as chairman of the BIFM.  We move into a very busy period for the BIFM with our conference in April, the Facilities Show in May and AGM and members day in June.  Following this we will close out the year with TWM and the annual awards in October.

“While I have some formal duties now to perform at all these events, I look forward to the opportunity to network in a less formal environment and share, learn and discuss the topics of the day with both members and non-members.”

As Ian had already served one year of his two year tenure as deputy, the Institute had to elect someone to replace Ian in what would have been his remaining year.  The person elected was Ismena Clout, chair of the London region since 2008.

The London region is now the largest in the country, with all events now receiving over 90 attendees.  Ismena is also heavily involved with the Rising FM special interest group, chairing it from September 2008 to June 2009.

Voted in as deputy chair was Stuart Harris, chair of the East region.  Stuart will serve a two year tenure as deputy chair, has been with the BIFM since 1998 and was elected as East region chair in 2005.  Stuart works for WorleyParsons Europe Ltd as their manager of facilities and administration.  He is passionate about the industry and the Institute, and says about his appointment: “It will be my role to act as an ambassador for the BIFM, and not just when attending BIFM events, but when I am attending any event.”

Ian, Ismena and Stuart will officially take over their new roles on 17th June at the AGM and members day, being held at the British Council in Trafalgar Square.  The BIFM would like to congratulate them all, and wish them the very best of luck and support throughout their tenures.

The BIFM would also like to offer huge thanks to current BIFM Chairman, Iain Murray, and deputy chair, Rob Greenfield for their overwhelming support to the Institute over the past two years.
