Government consults on EPCs
16-04-10 15:20 BIFM
BIFM members are invited to comment on a Government consultation to achieve better use of Energy Performance Certificates and the data collected to compile them.
The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive introduced the requirement for an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for all buildings (domestic and non-domestic) when they are built, sold or rented.
In addition, regular energy assessments of large public buildings must be undertaken and Display Energy Certificates (DECs) displayed so that users and visitors are aware of the energy use of buildings.
The Department for Communities and Local Government has now issued a consultation document (see link below) on a number of measures to help improve the effectiveness of EPCs and to make better use of energy performance data.
Of particular relevance to FMs are proposals to extend and manage access to data held on the EPC registers; extending the use of DECs to commercial buildings; and making lodgement of Air Conditioning Reports (ACRs) on the England and Wales non-domestic EPC register mandatory.
If you have any comments on the proposals in the consultation document please send them to richard.byatt@bifm.org.uk by 14th May to help the BIFM represent the views of its members to Government.
