Funding opportunities for climate change challenge

17-05-10 17:22 BIFM

Are you involved in a building project that would benefit from additional design funding to explore climate change adaptation strategies?

The Modern Built Environment Knowledge Transfer Network (MBE KTN) is organising an event on 25 May at the ICO Conference Centre in London that will give an overview of the climate change challenge and details of the competition. For further details about this event and to register your place, please click here.

The Technology Strategy Board funding competition - design for future climate – is opening on 14 June and could provide you with that funding. The Board will be investing up to £4.9 million between two rounds of the competition in 2010 and 2011, with individuals contracts awarded of up to £100,000 to cover the total costs of developing an adaptation strategy that addresses technologies, systems and processes in the areas of comfort, construction, water management as well as behaviour (building management and occupants).

Proposals are being invited from design teams to develop adaptation strategies for two types of existing large building project over £5 million:

·         planned low impact new buildings that are now at the design stage, or

·         large non-domestic buildings that are about to be refurbished to low impact standards (domestic retrofit is outside the scope).

Contracts for these building projects should already be in place between the design team and client.
