BIFM seeks views on Government FM contracts

30-07-10 12:47 BIFM

As reported by FM World earlier this month, the OGC has produced draft guidance on energy efficiency for facilities management contractors working for the government.

This guidance is open for consultation and BIFM would like to hear from as many members as possible to inform the Institute’s response. The BIFM’s newly-appointed energy advisor, Bill Wright, will be providing expert input.

As well as setting out what are called "Principles of Energy Efficiency in Facilities Management" the OGC’s guidance includes suggested contract clauses covering access to information, monitoring and reporting, benchmarking, performance mechanisms and gain share amongst other things.

The OGC guidance, along with a new Energy Efficiency Code (click link below), is part of the government’s drive to cut departmental carbon emissions by 10% by next May.

The consolation document can be downloaded from the BIFM website using the Documents link below. It includes five specific questions for which OGC is seeking answers but comment on any aspect of the guidance and proposed contract clauses is welcome.

To help BIFM coordinate members’ responses please email views to richard.byatt@bifm.org.uk by 10th September.
