London region river cruise a huge hit

London region river cruise a huge hit

02-08-10 12:39 BIFM

Over 200 London Region members and guests climbed aboard the Mercia on a warm summers evening on 8th July.

This now permanent fixture in the London Region calendar of events has grown year on year from modest beginnings to become one of the highlights of the year.

The cruise sailed past the all the landmark sites on the River Thames, from the London Eye and Houses of Parliament, past Docklands, the O2 arena and Cutty Sark to the Thames Barrier and Woolwich. Many had stories to tell of individual involvement with the sights passing by.

The boat then made its way back to Westminster, after a buffet dinner.  Those members that could tear themselves away from the sunny top deck were serenaded by the wonderful voice of ’Rod Stewart”’and his catalogue of hits, including of course ’Sailing’!

Apart from giving FMs the chance to catch up with colleagues, clients and friends in an informal atmosphere and promote the benefits of the BIFM, the evening also generated over £4000 of donations to charity. Demelza House, Child Victims of Crime and MacMillan Nurses will share these donations. The London Region cannot thank the members enough for this.

A raffle ticket was included in the ticket price and the winners were rewarded with some very special prizes arranged by Terry Burns of City Concierge at Tower 42.  The prizes and their winners were:

- VIP Concert tickets at the O2 Arena – Candice Plant of PRS

- 2nd row tickets for Michael Buble at Wembley – Matthew Sheppard of Condeco

- Top London Hotel accommodation for 2 – Jack Sibley of Mid Essex Heating

- Bottle of Champagne – Jamie Wright of Incentive FM

The London Region Committee would like to thank Regular Cleaning Services’ David Sambrook and Terry Carrigan for their continued support for this event and our new sponsor Perception Front of House Services, in particular Sarah Allen for her help with the organisation of the event.  Both companies provided funds and lots of help in making this another successful London Region Event.
