BIFM is supporting the campaign run by Safesite to raise awareness of the new Work at Height Regulations and the problem they address.
The issue of falls from height is continuing to be a priority during 2005 especially with the introduction of the new Work at Height Regulations. As part of its commitment to raising awareness of this problem Safesite has produced a video based on an actual prosecution which demonstrates the importance of making sure work at height is carried out safely.
Working at height is not just limited to roofwork or construction work and must be a concern for everyone especially property managers who are held responsible for the safety of people working on properties that are managed by themselves. This is irrespective of whether the person is directly employed by the managing company or not.
Project Height has been produced with assistance from the BIFM, HSE, RIBA and the RICS and takes viewers through an accident, from the actual fall through to the prosecution and final verdict. In addition to demonstrating the full consequences of a fall, Project Height is also important as it shows that individuals and not just a company can be prosecuted should a fall occur.
Over the coming months, Safesite will be releasing short video clips which build up over the year to provide viewers with the full story. Each excerpt shows a different aspect of the court case as well as explaining other consequences of a fall such as personal suffering, financial losses and insurance implications.
Access to the promotion is free, individuals simply register on the dedicated website - click the link below - and they will be notified by email when a new clip is released. Once the final clip is issued, a CD will be made available to people wishing to use the promotion for health and safety training purposes.
