BIFM South Region CPD Event Report: Boeing Flight Services

BIFM South members were given a rare opportunity to visit the Boeing Flight Services site in Crawley. Boeing are renowned for providing industry leadership in aviation training & flight services through its global training network across six continents, including the advanced technology of Boeing787 training suites.†

George Nilletti, BIFM member and Senior Facilities Project Manager at Boeing gave a fascinating talk about the company, their products and their global presence. The Boeing global network operates training campuses on six continents, supporting more than 80 full-flight simulators, including advanced technology 787 training suites.

Backed by nearly 100 yearsí experience, Boeing training programs are accepted by more than 100 regulatory agencies in close co-operation with authorities around the world to shape and establish industry standards in aviation training.

A site tour of the facility followed and included a visit to the Full Flight Simulator Hall to see the simulators in operation and the opportunity to sit in and operate virtual consoles for the 787 training classrooms. George and his colleagues showed members the innovative training products and services for pilots, technicians and flight crews throughout their careers.†

Members sat at consuls and could access both cockpits and the mechanics of various airplanes through a virtual display plus they could home in on external access hatches and upgrade or exchange vital components all though digital technology.

Ian Fielder, chair of South Region, thanked George and his colleagues for giving up their time and providing a great event for members. Ian also thanked the regional sponsors and money was raised for charity and will be split between South Region's charity and the BIFM chairís preferred charity.

The next BIFM South Event is on the 26 April and is a visit to EDF Atlantic House in Crawley and a talk on lifts, escalators and vertical movement in buildings.
