BIFM South Region celebrated World FM Day recognising the importance of the FM profession by organising a tour of the American Express Community Stadium, home of Brighton & Hove Football Club also known as Falmer Stadium. WorldFM Day aims to raise the profile of FM around the globe, promoting facilities management’s ideals, not only within the profession and industry, but also among governments and the general business community.

A capacity audience of members enjoyed two talks covering access control and GDPR. Trish Banbury from Paxton, a security access company spoke about electronic access control which provides the most efficient and convenient way of securing buildings and assets. Nigel Morgan of Cyber123 gave an overview and explanation of the new General Data Protection Regulations commencing on the 25th May and gave practical advice on how best to protect personal information.

Members then enjoyed a guided tour of the stadium. Construction work finally began on 27th November 2008, and finished just over three years later in May 2011, costing £93 million. Built by the Buckingham Group and Designed by famous football architects KSS who redeveloped Stamford Bridge in 2001, and The Etihad in 2003, Falmer Stadium was designed with potential expansion in mind. Within one season of opening 8,000 additional seats were installed, increasing the capacity to 30,750.

We would like to thank BIFM South Member, Gideon Meade, for arranging this event and our main sponsors, IPS Fire and Security for supporting BIFM South. We also would like to thank our speakers and for sharing their knowledge and experience.

The event will culminated in refreshments and networking and a charity collection was made on behalf of Rowan’s Hospice and the national chairs charity raised £165.00.
