Following the renewal of their joint partnership agreement earlier this year, the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) and the Department of Work & Pensions (DWP) have held the sector’s inaugural roundtable discussion on promoting FM as a career of choice.

Senior FM leaders came together on Tuesday 3rd July to explore initiatives for tackling challenges around the employment and skills agenda and ways to identify and encourage the next generation of workplace and FM managers into the sector.

Participants heard from Sofie Hooper, BIFM Senior Policy Advisor, who outlined the Institute’s rationale and hopes for the campaign, whilst the DWP’s National Employer and Partnership Team Senior National Account Manager Sandra Thompson gave an insight into the UK labour market and how Government employment policies will impact the FM industry.

The Roundtable highlighted the wide range of issues and challenges currently facing FM organisations and the work that needs to be undertaken to raise the profile of the industry. Through sharing best practice and ideas, the Roundtable group will work together on specific and measurable objectives in order to build future generations of the workplace and facilities management profession.
